Born in Bakersfield, California, Mark grew up as the youngest of three children. Early on, he was designated as the family entertainer. This was because, ever since he was a child, Mark always had a microphone in his hand and knew how to use it. He never missed the opportunity to make those around him laugh. He was a child fashion model, a singer, an actor, and an athlete.
Upon graduating from high school Mark continued his pursuits at college, adding student politics to his varied interests. He directed successful student body president campaigns for two separate candidates in successive years.
At college, Mark met, dated and married Diane Putnam. He promptly was taken into the Army, where he worked in personnel management in a top secret Army Intelligence Unit in Germany. "I felt that the military was teaching me valuable management skills, which I felt were important, but I wanted to live outside the box", Mark recalls.
After the military, Mark worked his entrepreneur skills developing franchises, selling real estate investments, and owning a print brokerage company. All this time Mark and Diane directed conventions, coached youth sports, and planned social events, developing programs and menus while perfecting their expertise in food preparation and service.
However it was not until the year 2000 that they first were exposed to kettle corn. After a short time watching how people enjoyed the snack, they jumped in with both feet. Their special formula is as closely guarded as an Army Intelligence secret. "I love creating excitement in a simple snack... from the preparation, to the popping, to the presentation. It is not just the taste that makes people smile."
But they also like spending time with people, creating a memorable experience. Working together, bantering about "The Old Kettle Master", and "The Bag Lady" puts a smile on peoples faces. They really value that experience. Every batch is a unique challenge, with unique difficulties. But honestly, "It is so easy a cave man could do it!"
Although The Old Kettle Master is in high demand, he is always open to new projects. No job is too big or too small. Call Mark today. You won't regret it.
